Exploring wine in a foreign country can be an intimidating challenge. Strange language, unexpected varietals, closed doors. We’ll open the way for a fantastic immersion. Mark comes from the USA with Hungarian roots. Kristóf is Hungarian and has worked in England. We’re a team that has experienced many sides of the industry on both continents. We’ll give you a good overview of winemaking, share homegrown insights and even chat about global perspective. You’ll leave Hungary with a more pronounced pallet, a greater understanding of the international wine industry, and you’ll have fun with friends!
started with a long cherished idea to farm grapes in Hungary ― “The early experiences were humbling lessons as a vineyard laborer and cellar hand. After vinifying my own riesling in 2007, I swapped sides to work wine commerce in the U.S.— running a supermarket alcohol dept., pouring drinks at wine bars, selling alcohol for a national distributor. I was the fortunate student of tasting and selling some of the finest wines in the world. Having run through a wide encompassing wine journey, I’ve realized I most enjoy tending my vineyards and introducing guests to the beauties of Hungarian wine.”
started with growing up under a wine writer father ― “I imagined many futures for myself, none of them related to wine. Especially after being loaned out by the family to help winemaker friends work their vineyards, I knew wine, grapes, and winemakers were not on my happy list. Life has a funny sense of humor though. When I left Hungary for England, the international hospitality industry threw me back into wine service. With a revitalized perspective, I returned to Hungary and began selling wine for the country’s most important distributor. From managing a wine shop to leading the international portfolio division, wine is all over my landscape. After completing the WSET diploma in Wine & Spirits, I’m thrilled to be running a start-up wine bar and guiding guests through this magnificent world.”
Hannah C2024-03-1710/10 Hungarian wine experience We attended as a large group for a celebration. We were welcomed to an intimate and quirky bar with clear attention to detail. Mark was very knowledgable giving an understandable but interesting overview of the process and characteristics of wine-making. As well as specifically with Hungarian wines we tasted.. we were able to ask lots of questions! The wines we tried were delicious and plentiful, including Mark’s own wine, as well as some delicious bar snacks. We enjoyed so much we stayed for extra wine and cocktails- thank you! 10/10 would recommend.ailish w2024-03-17Wine hasting hen party Would highly recommend visiting Press House 47, we went as a hen party group and the bride loved it! Fabulous selection of Hungarian wines with a fantastic host. Also some lovely, innovative, alcohol free options for our non-drinker.Anna T2024-02-20Incredible Wine Tasting Experience. Don’t hesitate to book! Mark was incredible and the wines were even better. The tasting was casual and designed around our tastes and preferences. Mark gave us a fantastic history of the regions, each wine and had amazing knowledge of the winemaking process being a producer himself. Buying the wine you like was extremely easy and reasonable at the end, not at all pushy like some wine tastings can be. Mark was a delight, please do not hesitate to book this wine tasting. We will be doing the 7 wines next time!Louise M2024-01-29Make this top of your list Couldn’t recommend this enough as a must do in Budapest. We had a wonderful afternoon in the very small and very cozy bar. We got a small snack, five wines and one Palinka as a starter. We highly recommend Press House 47 and their wines.Elliot2023-09-03Intimate and casual wine tasting, perfect for couples What an amazing time here, the experience was super intimate, low key and casual, which made it all the more special. It's great to keep wine casual and simple, makes us non-wine aficionados enjoy the experience much more. That said the wines we tried were enough to make me realise I'm missing out!Tripadvisor rating score: 5.0 of 5, based on 79 reviews
Drop by Parlé for a cool Hungarian experience with great wines and a good community. It’s a small bar with a house party feel. We’re there to answer any questions you may have. We may also introduce you to some of our regulars. They are very welcoming and it adds to the ambiance of the bar. Since we love spirits and savor cocktails, we take pride in creating a balanced drink list with temptations for the non-wine drinkers too.
